Disney World – Animal Kingdom

Sleep in on Holiday’s – yeah right.. An early morning start saw us getting ready to head into our first “Disney World Park” the Animal Kingdom after an enjoyable day at Disney Springs.

Disney Springs
Click here to view the photos of Disney Springs, this place is loaded with more shops not all Disney related with a large selection of dining options and other cool attractions like Lego store and Coke Cola. A fun fact is that this is the home to the world’s largest Disney outlet store.

Animal Kingdom
Off we set on the Disney Express to Animal Kingdom and I think everyone was a little excited to get there, on entering the park we were held up until 9:00am as the offical park does not open until then, it was so funny to see  people running to their attractions. Chill out girls we have all day…

We were fortunate to sit back and stroll, doing this allowed us to line up to have our first character meet n greet with a photo opportunity for Safari Mickey and Minnie Mouse. A quick note here we purchased “Memory Maker” which allows you to download all the photos you have around any attraction with in Disney World for your stay.

After our photo encounter our “planning – FastPass” went into gear and we headed for our first coaster ride Expedition Everest – only Belinda and I went on this and it was a fantastic ride with a reasonable amount of thrill to it but plenty of spend, no real big drops but still are great ride.

We wandered around and headed to our next ride …. this was a cross between a Safari truck that moves you around a fair bit and a simulator ride. At times it was completely dark with you just getting thrown around in the truck, pretty good ride though. We we left this ride it poured down as a thunderstorm pass over us. The weather turned a little patchy from hear with ponchos on ponchos off style, not too long we watch a birds in flight show.

The rain then got worse and they started to close down attractions as lightening was in the area, we scurried to the Lion King show to escape the rain, which was a good move and a very good performance – YouTube Video. Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us as our feet were soaked through so we decided to head back to Resort to freshen up and have lunch before heading back later this afternoon.

After a bite to eat and a little bit of a drying session we have headed back to Animal Kingdom for the rest of our Adventure and you would not even know that it hammered down with a thunderstorm only a couple of hours earlier.

So the afternoon was spent looking around the Kilimanjaro Safari Parks, It’s tough to be a Bug(4D) and the Finding Nemo Musical Stage show combined with puppetry, with the night finishing off with watching the Rivers of Light Show. Oh and Brianna and I snuck off for another ride on the Expedition Everest Coaster at Night :-).

Thoughts of the Day (Top 3)

  • Animals are well looked after, especially in the safari ride
  • The fastpass system works very well as long as you have put in the effort to plan the rides ahead
  • The Magic Memories, while an extra purchase is 100% worth the value and waiting in queues to get those fantastic moments captured
